The joy of outdoor family fun in the summer can often create a pile of bike helmets, dog leashes, beach bags, sun hats and more, turning the mudroom or entryway of our home into a cluttered space. Our good friend, crafter Kacia Hosmer (aka Coconut Robot), has a beautiful way to help dress up and organize this sometimes chaotic spot in our homes with a creative project that was made on the ScanNCut machine.
Did you know the ScanNCut machine can cut wood veneer? Kasia’s helpful tips and step-by-step guide to creating these stunning wood veneer hooks can unlock the potential to not only create this project for your home, but bring your own visions to life using this material.
To make the mudroom hooks, you will need your Brother ScanNCut machine, a Standard Blade, your Standard Mat, wood veneer, a wood plaque (or several, depending on how many you wish to make), paint, painter’s tape, hooks and adhesive. Prepare the wood plaque(s) to serve as the base for your hooks by sanding and painting with whatever paint color you’ve chosen. While the paint is drying, you can begin to create the cut files using your ScanNCut machine.
As Kasia explains, there are many ways to create a cut file using the ScanNCut machine. She walks viewers through the process of using “Image Trace” in ScanNCutCanvas. ScanNCutCanvas is a free cloud-based web application that allows you to easily convert .SVG files to .FCM, Image Tracing and Processing Overlapping Patterns. You can import projects you have created or edited with ScanNCutCanvas into your ScanNCut machine with the ScanNCut memory stick port. To explore ScanNCutCanvas, please click HERE.
We hope you have fun creating your own wood veneer mudroom hooks and exploring the possibilities for more wood veneer projects! We’d love to see photos of this project and the projects it has inspired once you’ve completed them. Please share photos with us on Facebook or Twitter and tell us about what you love most about your ScanNCut machine!
